#073 | Solidarity | Martin's Warstory
Tuesday May 25, 2021
Tuesday May 25, 2021
Solidarity is defined as unity that produces or is based on community of interests, objectives, and standards. To say we have found this in the recovery community is a severe understatement. With solidarity comes love, support and strength, all the ingredients necessary for a solid recovery. One might even go as far as to say, the solidarity with in the Recovery community is a power greater than any one self.
This week's topic is solidarity and is inspired by Martin who joins us from around the globe to share his Warstory. Listen to Cameron swear that Martin is Willy's doppelganger and decide for yourself. Either way, you'll truly be amazed at just how similar we all are being that we share a common struggle despite where or how we spent our upbringing.
Martin's story is tough, gritty, and inspired. We hope it inspires you the same way it has inspired us. To get more positive vibes from Martin or if you're interested in booking a one on one with him, check out @randomguygettingfit on IG. You won't be disappointed!

#072 | The Promises | Daniel's Warstory
Wednesday May 19, 2021
Wednesday May 19, 2021
When we began a process of recovery, we didn’t know what to expect. We only knew that drinking and/or drugging was destroying us. Hopefully, we get to the point where the fear of the unknown outweighed the pain of staying in the disease.
For those of us in A.A., we hear certain promises that we’ll receive as a result of working the 12 steps. Though they seemed somewhat unobtainable when compared to how things were for us, after some time of doing the work, we could see them coming true. In this week’s episode Cameron and Willy talk about the A.A. promises and what they mean in their lives today.
This week’s topic was inspired by our Warstory from Daniel. Daniel’s story had him all over the map, in and out of prison, homeless and destitute. He finally found hope in an Alano club in Ogden, Utah and it was there where he gained the knowledge and did the work to see the promises begin to come true in his life. Hear what his life is like today!

#071 | Admitted We Were Powerless | Jen's Warstory
Tuesday May 11, 2021
Tuesday May 11, 2021
There’s a reason why one of the first things we have to do in order to get better is to admit we are powerless. When we do, we open ourselves to help from a power greater than ourselves. When most of us are at rock bottom, just about anything will suffice for that power. But it doesn’t come without first realizing that we can’t control the things we think we can.
This week’s topic, admitted we were powerless, comes from Jen, who shares her crazy story with us. You’re sure to connect, just as we did, with her escalation, justification, and insanity that lead her to the point of defeat. It wasn’t until she admitted that she was powerless over drugs and alcohol that a path was made clear. We’re honored to share her story with you.
Jen’s podcast is coming soon! Check out @soberexposure_podacst on IG and stay tuned for more details!

#070 | Persistence | Peter's Warstory
Monday May 03, 2021
Monday May 03, 2021
The only way to get what we want is to continually try in getting it. It’s through persistence that we’re able to grow past the obstacles that stand in our way. When we move forward in spite of resistance and in the face of adversity, we increase our strength to deal with life on life terms.
This week’s episode is on persistence, a topic that was inspired by Peter’s Warstory. Peter was adopted at a young age after his alcoholic parents could no longer care for him. After falling into the abyss of alcoholism himself, he persisted in getting sober once he realized he had a real problem. Today he connects to his First Nations heritage and it’s there that he has found solace. We’re honored to share his story with you.

#069 |Thinking Errors | Dan's Warstory
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
Say it with me: I am not responsible for my first thought, only my first action. This can take some time to really sink in. For most of us, we had to come the realization that our thinking is a bit skewed. The things that occur to most “normies” may process through our thinkers differently. It’s okay! It’s what makes us who we are today. Accepting our flaws and understanding our thinking errors is a crucial step in moving forward in a life of sobriety.
Just ask Dan. Dan has had multiple stints of sobriety until he finally realized that his thinking may not always have his best interest in mind. Now, after hitting and spending some time sleeping in the parks, he’s come to the conclusion that turning over his will is the only way for him to stay sober. Today, he’s been able to do it one day at a time for 9 months. Hear his incredible warstory in this week’s episode of The Other Side of Hell.

#068 | Owning Your Story | Gavin's Warstory
Tuesday Apr 20, 2021
Tuesday Apr 20, 2021
We've all done some shit we're not proud of when drinking. Hell some of us have probably done some shit we're not proud of in sobriety! But there is something to be said about the power that can come from owning our past. That's exactly what this week's episode of The Other Side of Hell is about; owning your story.
Our topic was inspired by this week's warstory from Gavin. If you're unsure of exactly what owning your story looks like, be sure to tune in. Gavin will make it crystal clear. His honest and creative delivery is sure to have you in stitches as we're sure you'll be able to identify the same issues in your own story. Gavin doesn't shy away from the "taboo" stuff.

#067 | Boundaries | John's Warstory
Tuesday Apr 13, 2021
Tuesday Apr 13, 2021
Boundaries: it's hard to know if anything is as important in our early sobriety. We're faced with some rather large pills to swallow in those beginning stages. "All you have to do is change everything." But why are boundaries so important? And is it something that we'll always have to do?
In this week's episode Willy and Cameron are inspired to talk about boundaries. After we sober up, we can still go to the bar, right? We just won't drink! It's been said that you can only hang around a barbershop so long before you end up getting a haircut. Without boundaries, we're likely to revert back to that negative behavior.
Just ask John. John's warstory provided this week's topic and once you hear it, it will be easy to see why. After struggling time and time again to get sober, he was finally able to put away the vices until his lack of boundaries had him caught up in the insanity all over again. Listen to his hardcore, action packed story now!

#066 | Coping Mechanisms with Robert White | Deana's Warstory
Tuesday Apr 06, 2021
Tuesday Apr 06, 2021
It can be difficult to know where we pick up the habits that we have. Odds are, somewhere along the way our “bad” habits, actually served us as a survival instinct of sorts. Wherever they come from, coping mechanisms are not always bad. And they certainly aren’t easy to move past either.
On this week’s episode the guys are joined through the magic of Zoom by Robert White of Any Length Retreat in Pflugerville, TX. Robert shares a bit of his story and discusses how they address the topic of coping mechanisms, along with many other things, in their facility. Robert is constantly sharing his experiences with others and is careful to always include his struggles so others know a life of sobriety is not a perfect one. But that it is better.
Our topic of coping mechanisms was inspired by Deanna, who shared her journey of alcoholism with us in this week’s Warstory segment. Deanna learned from a young age that love was conditional. She chose to believe the world around her was one way, when clearly it was not. This behavior eventually led her into a number of toxic relationships and she eventually turned to drinking to cope. Tune in to hear how she’s gained some momentum and kept the sobriety train moving.
Check out Any Length Retreat at anylength.net and follow them on IG @anylengthretreat for great insight, tidbits, and recovery resources!

#065 | Breaking The Cycle | Jonathan's Warstory
Monday Mar 29, 2021
Monday Mar 29, 2021
Have you ever felt like your destined to repeat the mistakes of you past? Or beyond that, repeat the mistakes of your parents? Is there such a thing as a family curse? What do we do when we recognize that we are perpetuating the cycle?
On this week’s show Cameron and Willy get into Breaking The Cycle. It’s not always an easy thing to see when we’re going through it, but typically, they’ll come a point where it becomes undeniably clear that we are continuing to perpetuate negative behaviors. It’s then that we get to make a decision.
Just ask Jonathan. Looking at himself in the mirror with blood dripping down his chin after a hard and fast line, he had a moment of clarity. He decided then and there to break the cycle. Hear his amazing tale in this week’s Warstory.
Jonathan has a podcast, Grounded Phoenix, where they talk about all things recovery. He’s teamed up with Team XII to bring some amazing content!

#064 | Progression | Olivia's Warstory
Tuesday Mar 23, 2021
Tuesday Mar 23, 2021
Most of us didn’t skyrocket right to our drug of choice. It’s likely that drinking wasn’t immediately a problem. Somewhere in our drinking and using things crossed a line and there was no looking back. The disease is a progressive one and, like the promises in the AA big book, it can happen sometimes quick, sometimes slowly.
In this episode Willy and Cameron are talking about the progression. While it’s easy to recognize the progression of our illness now that we’re this far down the road, are we able to see the progression of the recovery? Let’s look at it a bit closer.
Our topic today is inspired by Olivia from Choosing Recovery who shared her story for this week’s warstory segment. Olivia starts in her childhood and explains a very slow progression into drugs and alcohol that would eventually have her doing things she swore she would never do for the sake of the next fix. Things continued to get worse until finally she was blessed with an arrest that would be the start of a new progression in a positive direction. Her life is a true testament to the gifts we receive in recovery.
Olivia, along with her husband Scott, have a YouTube channel, Choosing Recovery, where they speak with other addicts and alcoholics to share their experience, strength and hope.
Their website offers resources and Olivia keeps a blog about navigating her experience in sobriety and mental wellness.
